Google has announced its tailored model now enables multimodal input functionality which allows users to add images directly to their search queries in AI Mode.
The update brings in a new button to the AI Mode search bar that users can easily recognize. The intuitive feature enables users to take photos on the spot or upload pre-existing images from their devices. The advanced Gemini model demonstrates exceptional image interpretation abilities, which are significantly enhanced by Google Lens’s advanced object recognition technology. Google describes Lens as an essential component that accurately detects distinct objects from the uploaded images. The system transmits detailed contextual information directly to AI Mode, which then performs several interconnected sub-queries through a company-defined process called “fan-out technique.”

Google presents a powerful example to demonstrate how this new feature works in real-world scenarios. A user shows AI Mode multiple book covers and asks for recommendations of similar titles. Google Lens precisely detects every single book title from the supplied images. AI Mode uses this detailed information to blend the unique features of each book into its generated answers. The AI delivers more accurate and detailed reading recommendations while also proactively addressing subsequent inquiries stemming from the originally displayed book collection.

Through AI Mode, Google aims to secure its leading position as the first choice for online information access. Google declared its plans to broaden access to millions of current US Labs users who have no subscription to its premium AI service tier.
