Nine teens were arrested in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright of Johnsonville, South Carolina, on June 24, the latest violence to rock Florence County. The killing was the result of a fight “over a girl,” the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Officials say the suspects “pulled Trey out to” meet one of the teens, and the encounter was at least partially recorded on video by one of those present.

Wright’s body was found on First Neck Road on June 24, the sheriff’s office said. He had been shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. The road is a rural area located about 45 miles west of Myrtle Beach. Investigators arrested the shooter the next day; 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper of Conway allegedly shot Wright after an argument between the two men became physical.

The suspect and his victim had a history, authorities allege, and “security footage” from nearby properties and video captured by one of the suspects led detectives to Raper. Investigators said Raper went to meet Wright after being directed there by some of his friends, who first took Wright to another nearby area before driving him back to Raper’s location.

The others also are accused of helping set up the shooting. “Multiple Florence County teens have been arrested by detectives with the SC (Sheriff’s) Office Major Crimes Division and are now in custody” in connection with the shooting death of Wright, the sheriff’s office said. The exact circumstances are not clear, but it appears as if Trey Dean Wright’s mother is left behind.

According to the sheriff’s office, officials said several teens “helped lure Trey out to meet with some of the subjects” and “knew that Raper was going to the location with a firearm” while also having “knowledge that he had made threats to the victim.”

Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye also told reporters that the shooting was connected to an earlier conflict involving a third party. “We are aware there was some type of beef, fight, problem that had happened between two teens, and they (then) decided to retaliate,” the sheriff was quoted by WBTW-TV as saying. “It was all in the name of petty revenge or ego.”

Gianna Kistenmacher Arrested

One of the suspects arrested by authorities was Wright’s own girlfriend; the 17-year-old from Myrtle Beach has been charged with being an accessory before the fact in the teen’s death. Gianna Kistenmacher “knowingly and willfully” brought Raper to the location of the fatal shooting even though she “knew Raper presented a firearm to Trey and that an altercation likely to result in death would occur between Trey and Raper,” according to her arrest warrant.

The sheriff’s office also said one of the arrested individuals “recorded the incident on video,” while other suspects “facilitated by directing Trey to the location and speaking with Trey as he was led to the location.” The sheriff also noted that Raper was sentenced to life in prison without parole after his conviction and sentencing last year. “The sad thing is, you got a 16-year-old that lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?” the sheriff asked.

Two Additional Teens Charged with Murder

In addition to charging Raper with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office later announced three other individuals had been arrested. Two of them, Kendall and Belviso, were both arrested in the Myrtle Beach area. A third individual was also arrested and charged with murder.

Belviso and Kearns each posted $20,000 surety bonds last week and have since been released. Kendall, who was also arrested on a murder charge, was ordered to be held without bond, as was Raper, according to a separate statement.

Ashley Lindsey, Trey Dean Wright’s mother, released a statement to Fox News Digital. “All this court hearing and bond court and stuff is driving me crazy,” she was quoted as saying. “I don’t even have time to sit down and think half the time, on top of losing my precious baby.”

In the murder charge, the three additional suspects all were charged as adults due to South Carolina law. Kendall, Belviso, and Kearns all face the murder charge in addition to Raper. Wright’s mother, Lindsey, was also interviewed by WBTW-TV, the report noted.

“My son was murdered; somebody took my son,” she said. “It hurts. I try not to cry in front of them (her other children). It just hurts.” In addition to Raper and Wright’s girlfriend Kistenmacher, three more teens also were arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with accessory after the fact.
